Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act of 2009
Ledbetter Discusses the Release of her Memoir, “Grace and Grit,” and Reveals Why She Fears the Possibility of a President Romney
April 26, 2012 —Phoenix, AZ–Lilly Ledbetter, best known for being at the center of that historic discrimination case that inspired the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Actof 2009, as well as the first official piece of legislation that President Obama signed into law when he got into office, spoke one-on-one-with Stacey Gualandi, host of “The Women’s Eye Radio Show,” for an interview airing on April 28-29. This interview will be broadcast Saturday April 28 at 10am PST and Sunday April 29 at 2pm PST on 1480 KPHX in Phoenix along with a live stream on http://ww.1480kphx.com. Podcasts will be available online at The Women’s Eye (http://www.thewomenseye.com). Ledbetter discussed her memoir “Grace and Grit,” and will speak to being in the headlines over recent criticism of the Act.
During the interview, Ledbetter addressed a recent headline that questioned whether the Republican Party hates her. She revealed that she doesn’t know if they do, but they should fear her. “I hope they fear me because I’m dead serious about this,” Ledbetter said. “Anything that I fight for today will not do anything for me…. it will break your heart to hear how children are going home and their mother has just gone to the second job. And then on the weekends she’s gone somewhere working trying to match up the two job incomes to pay the rent and put food on the table.”
Additionally, Ledbetter revealed that she fears a President Romney. “I do,” she said. “Based on the recent outcry about women’s birth control, insurance payments to get that birth control, and women’s rights….Women are still lagging far behind.”
During the interview Ledbetter said that she will continue to fight for equal pay because she wants to help people make a better life. Her message to Governor Romney is to leave the Ledbetter Act alone! Not only does she not want the Act repealed, she said we need more laws to strengthen our families. “We need progress, and we don’t need to be talking about doing away with the little bit that we do have. You should expect and get a good day’s pay for a good day’s work.”
