On the next episode of The Women’s Eye podcast, don’t miss my interview with financial planner Catherine Scrivano of CASCO Financial Group in Phoenix, Arizona. Scrivano says the family that plans their financial future together, secures their financial future together.
I’ve often thought about having a thorough talk with my family about current and future financial issues but never knew exactly how to make that happen. I fear it would be an uncomfortable conversation.
“We talk to families very often who say that they wish that they could get on the same page with their kids and wish they could educate their children. There is a taboo around having financial conversations, and that works to the detriment of everyone, so, we developed a way in which we facilitate financial family meetings.”

Catherine is also a regular contributor to The Women’s Eye podcast for our Building Money Power series. She says helping to facilitate “family financial forums” has had nothing but positive results, adding “it is not as hard as it sounds.”
Catherine outlines several ways to rally the troops to sit down for a frank family financial workshop to discuss all-things-financial. It all begins with your family values.
“We start everything from a place of values, and it’s fun to watch families identify what they recognize immediately as the family values,” says Catherine. “Think about those values now that we know what they are and let’s start screening decisions and opinions through those values. Then let’s start a conversation about wealth.”
Here is the Family Financial Workshop workbook provided by Catherine to help families like mine get motivated to start conversations with their loved ones. You’ll see on the form that it is important to discuss several topic areas:
- How to define what wealth means.
- How to connect with your family.
- How to develop a family “mission statement.”
- Making sure to review and revise your family financial document on a regular basis.
After my chat with Catherine, I am looking forward to gathering my troops for a friendly financial conversation and filling out her form. Hope you will as well and see if it can help you and your family.
