We are excited to welcome four world travelers—Beth Whitman, Naomi Duguid, Pardis Mahdavi, and Catherine Karnow—to TWE for an “Explore the World” Travel Series on upcoming video podcasts. These experts share an inside look at out-of-the-way cultural adventures, spiritual retreats, food immersions and photography workshops.
Women are hitting the road more than ever, traveling to all parts of the word in new ways and with new goals. Their influence is far-reaching. Now is the time to focus in on our next travel plans.
Award-winning travel writer and photographer Laurie McAndish King, our guest podcast host, chats with these well-traveled adventurers for this series. You have heard and seen Laurie on several TWE podcasts talking about her books and her own wide-ranging experiences as a member of Wanderland Writers, a group of travel writers in the San Francisco area.
We hope these podcasts inspire you to “adventure boldly,” as Beth Whitman recommends, and to seek out new travel experiences. Our world wanderers have some tips up their sleeves to help you on your journeys.
TWE’S ADVENTURERS FOR THE TRAVEL SERIES:
BETH WHITMAN—Founder of WanderTours

Beth is a self-proclaimed fearless traveler, ultramarathoner and tour leader. After her first book, Wanderlust and Lipstick: The Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo, was released, women started asking Beth to bring them along on her travels. She now arranges small group adventures to off-the-beaten path places including Morocco, Tanzania, Lapland, Bhutan, Antarctica, and more fascinating destinations. This world wanderer says she gets to travel with people whom she is genuinely delighted to share time with and loves introducing them to new cultures, sights, sounds and food along the way.
NAOMI DUGUID—Writer, photographer, traveler and home cook

Naomi is the author of The Miracle of Salt: Recipes and Techniques to Preserve, Ferment, and Transform your Food, and of the award-winning cookbooks Taste of Persia: A Cook’s Travels in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, & Kurdistan; and Burma: Rivers of Flavor; co-author of six other award-winning cookbooks of food and travel, among them Flatbreads & Flavors and Hot Sour Salty Sweet. Naomi organizes ImmerseThrough tours featuring home cooking in foreign countries, which she says is the most fundamental way to understand a place.
PARDIS MAHDAVI—Author, journalist, entrepreneur and retreat leader

Pardis is a coach, former academic, and keynote speaker and leads Entheon retreats, which she describes as “transformational.” Her tours, which focus on cultural wisdom, integrated approaches to wellness and spiritual alchemy, include trips to Tulum, Mexico; Sedona, Arizona; Kauai, Hawaii; Bali, Indonesia; and Giza, Egypt. Pardis has published seven non-fiction books, including Book of Queens: The True Story of the Middle Eastern Horsewomen Who Fought the War on Terror.
CATHERINE KARNOW—Renowned global photographer and workshop leader

Catherine’s passion for photography carries into her love for teaching. She has taught the National Geographic Weekend Workshops in San Francisco and gives teaching workshops and speaking presentations all over the world. Participants call Catherine’s signature photography workshops in Italy, Vietnam-Cambodia, France, Romania, and South India “life-changing” and “transformational.”
In Catherine’s words, “I live and breathe photography. Everything I know has been from my own personal and professional experience. I believe that the joyous act of photography connects you to the Divine. Teaching is my calling. It is my role to guide my guests to express the beauty they see and feel – and to understand how photographing people can change their lives.”
