Right now, my entire portfolio is spread across the guest room floor. Probably sounds familiar to some of you, but Catherine has the solutions you need to create a financially structured life.
She says when your financial life is disorganized, it can be very overwhelming.
“If you are filing your tax returns, and you’re being very honest and diligent and Uncle Sam comes and knocks at the door and says, ‘We’d like you to prove that,’ wouldn’t it be great to be able to say I’ve got the receipts?
I harp on it all the time….Any area of disorganization adds stress. Not having that kind of stress in our financial lives allows us to make better decisions.”
– Financial planner Catherine Scrivano

Catherine is a regular contributor to The Women’s Eye Podcast for our special Building Money Power series. She says there are many upsides to deciding to organize your finances.
“More people are disorganized than organized. My theory is that it’s not difficult to be organized. It’s difficult to start. There’s a saying about ‘outer order, inner calm,’ and that appeals to me. It’s the reason I make my bed every day, believe it or not.”
Catherine offers several ideas to help you declutter and destress. She also uses a form to help her clients stay on top of their files called a Personal Document Locator which you can access here!

While organizing is not a one-time process, Catherine says your routine will become easier IF you keep these three things in mind:
- Have an attitude that this is something that will serve you well
- Approach it with optimism and enthusiasm
- Have realistic expectations
