The renowned author, poet and civil rights activist
Maya Angelou passes away at 86.

This “Moment in Time” photo on nbcnews.com shows Ms. Angelou being awarded
the 2010 Medal of Freedom by President Obama on February 15, 2011.  She was the second poet
in history to recite a poem at a presidential inauguation (President Bill Clinton’s, 1993).

Her longtime friend, Oprah Winfrey, remembered her fondly, saying,
“She will always be the rainbow in my clouds.”
