By Stacey Gualandi/March 25, 2019

In honor of Women’s History Month, don’t miss my Brand New interview on The Women’s Eye Radio with Sheila Ronning, the founder and CEO of Women in the Boardroom. With more and more women working their way up in companies nationwide, we wanted to hear Sheila’s advice on just how to make it to the boardroom.

Ronning is a sought-after speaker, as well as a networking and leadership expert. Seventeen years ago, as a PR executive who created successful networking events, she set out to increase the number of women getting the proverbial equal seat at the corporate table and that’s when Women in the Boardroom was born.

To this day, the organization has successfully bridged the gender gap in the boardroom through “providing senior-level executive women with the tools, knowledge and connections for corporate board service.”

Ronning wants women to “show up, stand up and speak up,” and rather than focusing on the current negative gender statistics, she wants women to just “get off your butt and do the work.”

During our chat, we discuss why there is still gender parity, how to network and create the perfect “elevator pitch,” what are the steps to get in the seat, when to pursue corporate boards, and how to stand up to the resistance.

You will quickly see why Sheila Ronning is a trailblazer in working toward gender equality. “This isn’t a supply issue, it’s a demand issue,” she says.

And one last reminder from Sheila: “It’s never too early to start your path to sitting at the table!”

Be sure to tune in to Stacey’s BRAND NEW interview on The Women’s Eye Radio – to coincide with Women’s History Month – with Dr. Susan Blaustein, the founder and Executive Director of WomenStrong International, an organization dedicated to eradicating urban poverty in Ghana, India, Haiti, Kenya and the United States.

With a doctorate from the Yale School of Music, Dr. Blaustein was on track to be a music composer, but after working on a fellowship and traveling abroad, she began reporting on poverty and social injustice that she witnessed first-hand, “whether in the Philippines, Cambodia, Burma (Myanmar), or while watching an earlier generation of Rohingya Muslims pour in from Burma into already overwhelmed Bangladesh.”

This author-professsor-and former journalist saw a need to combat the hardships women and girls are facing around the globe. Through WomenStrong, Dr. Blaustein is providing the tools they need to survive and thrive. You’ll hear how she’s accomplished this on the podcast.

Now into its fourth year, the organization just launched a new anti-violence campaign “Cities for Women” in conjunction with International Women’s Day on March 8. Check out this very informative #CitiesforWomen infographic.

For Dr. Blaustein, WomenStrong is a labor or love and she is committed to make it her life’s work…what she calls “Women’s Work.”

Lauren Daniels is one of the wonderful women I have had the pleasure of meeting.  At age 35 she was told she had breast cancer. That diagnosis changed the direction of her life.

I was very fortunate. Other people had $100,000 worth of medical bills. So we decided that we wanted to provide hope to some of these moms as they were going through this. –Lauren Daniels

She saw the tremendous need to help moms and their families who were dealing with the challenges and the expenses of cancer just as she was. Lauren is truly healing through her organization HEAL–Happily Ever After League–in the home she calls Healing House.

Lauren and HEAL give one of the most creative and fun fundraising teas you could ever imagine–The Fairytale Tea–once a year to raise money for the non-profit. Some of the unique tables at their recent April gathering are pictured here.

It was such an honor to have her guest with me on The Women’s Eye Radio Show…   [Read more…]
