As we welcome 2022, we look back proudly to celebrate the successful launch of our second book, 20 Women Storytellers earlier this year. But equally as important, we wanted to note the wonderful authors featured on our site during the year. Here are our TWE 2021 Must-Read Books.
These authors are remarkable women who have written about everything from the environment, travel, thriving in our tough circumstances, grit and determination to themes of women’s empowerment. In case you are looking for an inspiring read for the coming year for yourself or a friend, here’s a reminder of some really good options.
In alphabetical order, our featured books and their talented authors:
Gloria Feldt | Intentioning: Sex, Power, Pandemics and How Women Will Take The Lead for Everyone’s Good

Gloria encourages diverse women to embrace their personal power to lead with intention, confidence, and joy. This book is about the future, and taking leadership lessons from the pandemic.
“We have opportunities from the “new normal.” We are in a season of rebirth and a time to open our minds to new ways of thinking.” Gloria Feldt
Paola Gianturco and her Granddaughter Avery Sangster | COOL: Women Leaders Reversing Global Warming

Paola and her granddaughter Avery compiled the first photographic book to chronicle the work of female climate leaders globally. They have created their own personal climate plan and show us how we can too.
“Women leaders are reversing global warming. Their stories just aren’t being told. So my granddaughter and co-author, who was 12 at the time, decided we would document their stories.” Paola Gianturco
COOL is out on April 22, 2022 (Earth Day) You can pre-order now.
Laurie McAndish King | An Elephant Ate My Arm: More True Stories from a Curious Traveler

This is Laurie’s third book in her series of “Curious Traveler” series. It recently won first place at the 2021 Paris Book Festival. Laurie reminds us that we live in a world of wonders. She will inspire you to hit the road and discover places and people you could only dream about.
“It’s easy to get lost, frightened, or confused when you’re off the beaten path, but it’s also easy to be delighted, awe-struck, and crazy-in-love with the world.” Laurie McAndish King
Amberly Lago | True Grit and Grace: Turning Tragedy Into Triumph

Amberly discusses transforming pain into purpose following a horrific motorcycle accident that shattered her leg and left her with chronic, daily pain. She endured 34 surgeries but was determined to save her leg, her career and her dreams.
“For me, resilience was really about my ability to find purpose and be of service and shift my perspective with gratitude because it would have been easy to spiral down into depression. We have that superpower of resilience within us.” Amberly Lago
Camille Seaman: Melting Away: a Ten-Year Journey Through Our Endangered Polar Regions

Camille’s award-winning photography spotlights the environment in all its beauty with the extremes of its changing climate. She has photographed everything from polar bears, storms, penguins and well-known work on diminishing icebergs.
“I think until every human understands their interconnection and interrelatedness to all of life on this planet we do not stand a chance as a species. My stories I hope will further that idea.” Camille Seaman
Mindy Uhrlaub | Unnatural Resources

Mindy, a filmmaker, musician, activist and mom explored the atrocities and tragedies happening in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to write her book and shares how that journey changed her life. Isn’t intended to be a story about her but the strong, resilient Congo women.
“Doing it (writing) from my home in California was not the way to do it. If I was going to write a fiction book about people in Congo, I needed to know how they really looked when they were celebrating and mourning…you can write just the facts, but to let your reading breathe you need to have the atmosphere and so I went.” Mindy Uhrlaub
